MEDIA RELEASE 16 July 2008
REEL talent at REELmad 2008
A fast and funny short film titled Sabotage has scooped the pool at this year’s REELmad film festival in Noosa. The six minute film made by local young filmmakers scoped the pool after being awarded Best overall Film, Best Actor, Best Lighting, along with the People’s Choice award – as voted by the audience on the night.

REELmad festival founder and director Belinda Griffin says the boys wowed the audience on the night with their cheeky script.
“Their film essentially told the story of their personal revenge as filmmakers, and their sabotage of the REELmad film festival, due to their frustration at not having made the cut into the Top 12 finalists in previous REELmad filmmaking competitions,” she says.
“Their execution was top notch, with a stellar acting performance from Leigh Parker, who took the gong for Best Actor.”

Belinda says filmmakers were given only 24 hours to make their films. “Considering the challenge that such time constraints present, we were impressed to have 47 films entered in the 2008 competition.”

The 24 hour theme also applied to judging, with the panel of judges (actor Michael Veitch, producer Ted Emery and all-round film expert Alex Mankiewicz) given only 24 hours to view, shortlist and present the winning entries at a gala event at The J at Noosa Junction on the night of Sunday 13 July.

From the 47 films submitted, the 12 films chosen as finalists were:
The Curse, It’s Raining Men, No Through Road, Love All, Finding Joe, Sabotage, Remembered, Got Worms (an animation made by two 14 yr old local boys), When Words are Not Enough, Fideo del Oestes, Bus Stop and The Cleaner.
