| what
is REELmad
Five years ago after a spate of suicides in our region, my
teenage daughter lost a close friend to suicide. I decided
to do something positive for the community and its young people.
REELmad 24 hour film-making festival was borne
giving entrants 24 hrs to write, shoot and edit a film, and
judges given 24 hrs to view, shortlist and present the winning
entries at a gala event.
REELmad presents a rare opportunity for local
people to shine and express themselves as directors, performers,
musicians and see themselves and their community on the big
screen. It's inclusive of the entire community; not
restricted by age or experience and inspires film-making teamwork
from teenagers, entire families to senior citizens. It's fast,
it's fun and at the same time raises funds and awareness for
the prevention of youth suicide in a truly uplifting way.
What started as a homegrown event has grown
exponentially into an iconic annual festival, attracting the
support of community organisations and industry professionals
as judges - including David Stratton, Margaret Pomeranz &
director Rolf de Heer (10 canoes). |
